Driver Permits

There are two options for getting a permit:

Option 1:

As early as age 15, a student may enroll in a driving class and receive a waiver to get their permit without taking the test. This waiver can be issued as early as ten days before a class starts so that the student can get a head start on practicing. They will need to take with them a birth certificate, picture id, $20, and a parent (see the DOL website for other forms of acceptable id.) They will be given an eye test and receive their permit. Students must have their permit for six months before getting their license.

Option 2:

If the student is 15 ½ years old, they may go to the Department of Licensing and take a 25 question knowledge test. They will need to take with them a birth certificate, picture id, $20, and a parent (see the DOL website for other forms of acceptable id.) They will be given an eye test and receive their permit after passing the test.
